A bowel cleanse is the removal of waste from the bowel. Bowel cleanses are done by using an herbal product, a detoxification diet or by colon irrigation (colon flushing). Bowel cleanses are not recommended for weight loss or to keep your digestive system healthy. There is no evidence that they help with either.
Unless your doctor has recommended a bowel cleanse to get ready for bowel surgery or a colonoscopy, your body does not need bowel cleanses to remove stool or toxins. Your body does this naturally. Bowel cleanses should be done under the supervision of a doctor.
Healthy food choices combined with a healthy lifestyle can help you to keep a healthy body weight and a healthy digestive system.
