Simran, from Mississauga, loves this recipe because of its unexpected crunch and surprising sweetness.
Here’s a combination of textures and flavours for a snack idea. Kids love bagels and cream cheese and this version has the crunch of walnuts and apple kissed with a sweet touch of maple syrup. Fun, delicious and nutritious!

For added calcium and protein, you can substitute ricotta or cottage cheese for the cream cheese.

Try using an English muffin for the bagel.
Ingredients

Whole grain bagel |

Light cream cheese |
2 Tbsp (30 mL)

Walnut pieces |
2 Tbsp (30 mL)

Apple, quartered and sliced |

Canadian maple syrup |
2 Tbsp (30 mL)

Directions

Slice bagel in half crosswise and toast if desired.

Spread cream cheese on the inside of each half of the bagel.

Top with walnut pieces and press lightly into cream cheese.

Top with sliced apple and drizzle with maple syrup.
